I am only new on this site & have read a lot about problems td5 engines in particular head problems.has any one had these engines with mileages of around 200 to 300 thousand ks& had no major trouble.maybe only people who have had trouble have replied. (i hope so).my current one is a 2004 disco now got 65000 on the clock, dont do The only solution to this is to send your ECU away to someone like ALIVE to get it refurbished or source a replacement. To check you will need a fault reader like a Nanocom. To be honest this is the first place I would start having been through this whole problem with my TD5. 9. With the ECU still weeks away and evidence that the problem could be laying somewhere else (although ECU was still 'topsiding' under heavy load and continuity was re-checked good between ECU and each injector… in static conditions), resolved to try out a different approach Either defender or discovery, as they both have the same engine they will have some of the same problems in common ? Ideally a defender was in mind, my dad said his old td5 defender was hard work. He had two ecu's, all the injectors renewed, it has a sticky ingector on the third cylinder and if it got bellow 0 degrees he lost a lot of engine power. Oct 11, 2006. #1. I m posting this in case it helps others with a similar problem. My car is a 2002 Discovery II, TD5, 92k miles, owned from new. Last night, driving home, I lowered the drivers door electric window and it stayed down! When pressing the switch, the motor could be heard working inside the door, but the glass didn t move. The problems were with the pre 2000 TD5 heads. Apparently Land Rover "solved" the problem on the later heads. You need to confirm if the diesel is getting in to the oil via the injector seals and/or a cracked fuel gallery in the head before you write the head off. Update to this saga. Booked Disco into local garage that does a lot of Land Rover work to have the clutch system bled through. Took them ALL week to finally get it resolved so it was either a pig of a job to do, or there's some small underlying issue that may well surface again in the future. Sep 30, 2016. #1. I have a 2004 TD5 which I have owned since 2006. During this time it has had at least 6 fuel pump relays! Another one has just failed today. It died on me in traffic and I rolled to a halt with the engine management light on. Luckily it restarted without too much trouble on that occasion. I got out of the traffic and pulled over. It could be your bcu body control unit. Reading up on disco 2 problems with these symptoms with a Land Rover mechanic and it says that these problems are common and it’s down to moisture getting in and damaging the earth wire. Ie rusty contact. Try removing it and give it a good looking over. fBEW5NO.
